A few Kanpur potatoes farmers have been throwing away their crops due to a shortage of storage space

The farmers who grow potatoes in their Kanpur Nagar district are left with only one option left: dispose of their crops in out in the open since the cold storage buildings in the district do not have room. Farmers have said that this year’s record-breaking potato harvest is causing a shortage which has reduced the price of potatoes to 2 3 kg. The farmers have demanded that their potato prices be put into the jurisdiction of MSP in order they are able to get the reasonable and affordable prices for their harvest. In the absence of space for cold storage and no storage space in the cold storages, they have to remove their crop.

According to the District Horticulture officer Digvijay Singh, there more than 80 cold storages located in the district. The incident in which 40 sacks of potatoes were dumped out on the streets of the district’s Shivrajpur area is being investigated.
