The transition from the northern hemisphere imports is happening, with the predominance of grapes without seeds in the current year. They are also becoming more well-liked within French families. Eric Godard Durand, president of Agence Laparra, which has offered Candy grapes for some time and is now taking stock of how the market is performing as we approach the holiday season.
“New kinds of wine originated from Peru”
“We are at the end of the year to purchase Italian white grapes. This is especially for the variety with no seeds Autumn Crisp. In the case of black grapes, we mainly offer grapes from Moldova.” The grapes of Peru and south Africa are slowly making their way into the European market. “For the segment of roses there is a new variety called the Candy Heart variety made its debut on the market this week, as well as others like the Flame. White grapes are also in the mix, though their are still not great for this moment.”
“We are introducing fresh varieties of grapes that are coming from Peru that are exceptional, like the exceptional Peruvian Timpson white wine which will be available on the French market in the first week of January. Wholesalers today work mostly on Italian red and white grapes that come from Peru, South Africa, as well as Namibia.
The market is “very lively, with a strong demand for grapes that are seedless” which is boosted by the onset of the Christmas season. “Sales of premium grapes rise around this time of the season. The introduction of Candy Heart Candy Heart variety in the lead-up to Christmas has proved very well-loved which has led to increased the sales, despite its cost at present, which is around EUR7.50/kg [7.8 USD/kg for wholesalers.”
White grapes that are being shipped originate from Peru will increase in the next few months. From March from March, wines of Chilean source will be offered for sale.
Demand for seeds-free grapes
The need for seeds-free grapes continues to grow each year and 2024 will be the same. “It is almost the norm for consumers.” The seeds-free Candy grape is available in three different colors: Candy Heart in pink, Candy Cotton in white as well as Candy Dream in black. The Laparra agency chose to include this variety in their range due to the fact that it’s “become an essential item.” At present, only Candy Heart Candy Heart is on the market. Wholesalers are taking it on since the consumer in the end is obsessed with the Candy Heart. Even with higher costs markets are responding quite quickly.”
While they are still in use, the seedsed varieties are disappearing. “These are the varieties that are found in less expensive segments for instance, those that come from Moldova and Peru. Red Globe from Peru, they are being sold limited quantities due to the fact that they’re not as popular. Prices are high in the present (around EUR3 [3.12 USD]) due to the beginning of the marketing campaign.”
