Imran Mehmood Sheikh, Central Chairman of APBUMA, has voiced concerns about the disruption of import and export consignments in Sindh, Pakistan, due to ongoing protests related to canal issues.
Sheikh noted that road blockages pose risks for exporters, as consignments are unable to reach ports on time, potentially missing scheduled shipments. “This inordinate delay may hurt our reputation in the global markets, and we may lose export orders from the international buyers,” he stated.
He highlighted that the current situation threatens the export of perishable goods, including fresh fruits and vegetables. “At some places, mobs are forcefully damaging vehicles that are forced to taken refuge at roadside hotels for the last week,” he explained.
Sheikh remarked that the situation impacts not only the government but also the citizens of Pakistan. He has called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Chief Minister of Sindh to address the issue and restore traffic flow on all roads in the province.
Additionally, he urged the government to resolve the canal dispute through peaceful dialogue and address those attempting to disrupt national interests through violent actions.
