Although California was hit with a couple of months of torrential rain and hail this spring the harm to the stone fruit set was hardly noticeable. Actually, the growth conditions have been extremely good in the spring, which is apparent from the state of health of the tree as well as the fruits set. The fruit set is now being harvested ahead of the start of last year’s season. “We had a warmer the months of February and March. we were seven to ten days ahead over last year’s crop, but the cooler April has put us to perhaps 7-7 days behind the dates of harvest in 2023,” says Krista Beckstead from Mountain View Fruit Sales. “In the meantime, we’re anticipating more than we did in last year,” she added. The volume of the crop is expected to rise over last year’s harvest when it was an extremely low volume year for stone fruits. “The favorable conditions for growth has resulted in the stone fruits beginning to be harvested this week however the quantity is still light,” Beckstead shared. The harvest of apricots and the initial batch of peaches harvested last week, with white peaches slated to begin this week. Apart from apricots, as well as peaches, the business also cultivates nectarines (both white and yellow) along with plums, grapes, and plumcots.
This year is Mountain View Fruit Sales’ 30th year of stone fruit. “We look forward to celebrating this milestone together along with our retail partners as well as customers.” Through the years the business has established strong relationships with each of its clients. The firm is proud to be “more than a mere box of fruits”. It is a family-owned business and all of the fruit is from the family of farmers. A lot of them reside on the land that was cultivated by their grandparents and parents. Traditional ways of life are in use and the knowledge of their ancestors can be passed on from one generation to the next generation. The thing that sets Mountain View apart from other stone fruit producers is the and its ripening procedure for every products sold under the Summeripe brand. “The fruits are ripe more time after picking prior to being shipped to retail stores. This lets the fruit remain in the ideal food quality for a longer time making it perfectly eating-ready when it arrives at the home of the consumer,” said Beckstead.
Celebrations
For its 30th anniversary, Mountain View Fruit Sales has many fun prizes planned to commemorate the season of stone fruits. The first one is set for May’s end in celebration of the company’s 30th Year of Harvest. The second will be held during the week leading up to the Fourth of July. The theme will be “Cheers towards Summer” and it will take place co-hosted by Tea With Tae, which will feature their iced peach and nectarine tea as well as Mountain View’s stone fruits. The winner will win an award package that includes items from both companies, as well as other items.
