According the Secretary of Commerce Tipu Munshi, the government will purchase onions if the cost of this essential ingredient is not reduced in a short time. “We monitor the general circumstances. We are planning to import onions when the price is not arrive within one or two hours,” the commerce minister stated this morning.

The minister expressed the government’s commitment to support onion production, which is being sold for between 80 to 90 in various market places in the capital city of Dhaka. The minister urged people from various sectors, including traders, to work with one another in the midst of global turmoil The commerce minister stated that although the government has set the price of sugar but it hasn’t yet been a factor in the market.

When speaking to journalists at her secretariat’s office in Dhaka on May 14th, The Agriculture Secretary Wahida Akhter, said this year’s onion production across the country was higher than 3.4 millon tonnes.
