Bangladesh stipulates that watermelon products are sold in pieces rather than by weight

The Directorate of the National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) in Bangladesh has ruled that watermelon will be sold by the pound, not by weight to stop consumers being abused.

A.H.M. Sofiquzzaman Director General of the DNCRP, A.H.M. DNCRP Director General of the DNCRP, announced this regulation at the start of a fair-price watermelon project in Dhaka. The decision was made following reports that vendors were buying watermelon pieces by weight in the coastal areas of southern Bangladesh and then selling them in weight with significant gains.

Sofiquzzaman stressed that watermelons must be sold the same way they’re purchased. She also stressed the necessity for vendors to present a valid receipt for each transaction. Any violation of this rule will be punished, and customers are urged to inform authorities of any incidents of selling watermelons by weight. This rule’s enforcement will protect the rights of consumers and to ensure fair trade methods in the market for watermelon.
