AvoGrey(r) Greenskin avocados will be sold in select New Zealand fresh produce retailers in the coming weeks, which marks the beginning of the season’s crop. In the wake of a restricted offering in the past, larger quantities are expected to be on the market by 2025. Production is expected to increase significantly in the years ahead, after the plants are get older.
There are three different varieties in the AvoGrey Greenskin collection All three are sold by the AvoGrey Greenskin brand. This season, two varieties–Greystar(r) and Ellipse(r)–will be available. Greystar is the variety that comes in early season which will begin to be offered next week, for a brief time. Ellipse will be available the beginning of April, and will continue until the month of May.
The fruit was developed over the years by expert cultivators of avocados David Grey and Judi Grey over the course of decades, AvoGrey Greenskin avocados were developed to be bred with care to provide the highest quality and consistent. After careful cultivation in their Grey family orchard located in Gisborne the fruit is currently being grown by a small group of farmers who share the same goal of growing top quality avocados.
AvoGrey Greenskins stands out with distinct features. Contrary to other varieties available within New Zealand, they remain fresh and green, have a shiny, smooth skin as well as being larger with a less hefty stone. They also have great eating qualities, resist burning when cut and come with a longer shelf-life, remaining fully ripe and ready for consumption for much longer.
