Michael Swaby of Crescent, St. Mary, Jamaica is passionate about cultivating coconuts from the time he was seventeen years old. He was a coconut farmer in November 2022 when Michael was nominated to this title from the Coconut Industry Board for his sustainability practices used at his 38-acre farm. Then, he was voted as the World’s Best Innovative Coconut Farmer during the 50th International COCOTECH Conference (ICC) as well as Exhibition which was held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Swaby was a participant in training for regional areas that was provided by CIB in conjunction with Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) as well as CARDI, the Scientific Research Council (SRC) as well as the European Union (EU). Swaby was later selected to provide others in his local community using the lessons he learned. He was charged with the continuous advancement of their agricultural practices.

One of the most significant innovation implemented by Swaby One of the most significant innovations that Swaby implemented, as well as one of the things he learned during his education program was the fact that it is not a good idea to dispose of any of his resources. In particular, he markets coconut husks for compost which is a bonus considering the sense that he’s always interested in finding methods to earn money from the disposal of resources.
