A decade ago, Fazli, Himsagar, Langra and Gopalbhog mangoes were among the most well-known varieties of mangoes among the consumers of Bangladesh. Today, they’ve been substituted with the Amrapali which is also called BARI Mango-3, variety. About 25 percent of the mangoes that are grown in India currently come from the Amrapali type, and the production of which has increased during the past 10 years.
Thedailystar.net reports that the data provided by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) the equivalent of 2.35 millon tonnes of mango produced during financial period 2021-22. In this figure, about 600,000 tonnes were the Amrapali type, which is being produced throughout all the 64 districts across the nation, DAE officials said. Naogaon, Rangamati, Khagrachari and Bandarban are the top four districts producing crops.
1.15 Mln tonnes of mangoes that were produced in the Rajshahi the region this year
Around 1.15 million tons of mangoes in different varieties were grown on approximately 93,000 acres in the northern regions of Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon and Natore districts in the year. The final stage of the peak three-month business season for the mango, various markets, including those located in Baneswar in Rajshahi, Sapaher of Naogaon and Kansat of Chapainawabganj were flooded with trading in the past few days.
