The state of Himachal Pradesh in India, Adani Agri Fresh has raised the price of apple purchases by 5 cents per kilo, changing the price for premium apples between Rs80 and Rs85 per kilogram. This change comes in response to the rising price of the market, and an apple of the highest quality is now priced between Rs1,800 to the price of Rs2,300.
In light of these trends the apple growers are receiving between Rs1,300 and one hundred dollars per box from organizations such as Adani which has led to a shift to direct sales in order to improve profits. To combat this change and to attract cultivators Adani Agri Fresh has revised the rates of its purchase upwards.
It has the biggest apple purchase infrastructure across the globe, with the Controlled Atmosphere (CA) store which has a 20,000 metric tons capacity, the company is determined to ensure a steady supply of premium apples. This approach not only tackles the problem of spoilage that comes to the storage for a long time of less-quality apples, but it will also be in sync with Adani’s business and storage policy for high-quality fruit.
After an apple shortage in the past year that led to direct purchase from mandis to help meet the goals of procurement, Adani is contemplating a similar strategy this year in order to fill any issues in direct procurement.
The price hike is expected as a relief for producers of apples, and ensure higher returns from their products, as well as assisting Adani’s goal of maintaining the supply of top quality apples to ensure future sales.
