A tray turner and a crate turner all in one device helps growers of strawberries to automatize the logistics

Peter Veltman has taught himself how to build highly sought-after machinery. The way he does it is through his business Fieldman. A self-built machine that he developed operates at the strawberry producer Royal Berry, Peter tells the Dutch local newspaper.

This is a line of machines according to three pieces of footage that illustrate the entire process starting with flipping open crates, and removing trays, to putting the tray inside the containers. “It’s a robot as well as a Crate Flipper all in one. The ability to open five crates simultaneously, nobody would be able to do that.”

In the past, human workers did this task. Today, the robotic line is doing this for the grower in Bemmel in just 1.5 men working in just the span of eight hours. In the past, there were 18 workers all day all day.

The newspaper report also reveals that the scientist reveals that he’s developing a method that allows for the manual cutting of strawberries. Through his innovations, Peter assists growers like Royal Berry, as well with other producers of fruits by reducing the amount of labor required and improve production. It is timely, especially now that the issue of the issue of migrant workers is being extensively debated in the political world. “I considered: I’ve got my sandwich” Peter says in the news on what the VVD vision document which he had taken note of. The VVD is hoping for an automated system that could reduce the demand to employ migrant workers.
