A surplus of supply from Ukraine causes price decreases

Analysts from EastFruit have reported that the Ukrainian market for plums is struggling with an excess of plums, which results in a significant decrease in the prices. Local wholesalers are experiencing the issue of low demand for plums as the supply of plums is increasing because of seasonal influences.

At present it is reported that the cost of locally grown plums is 8 to 14 UAH for a kilogram ($0.19 up to $0.34 per kilogram) that is an average of five percent decrease from the close of the working week. However, the elevated temperature of the air has increased the ripening of plums, but has negatively affected the quality of them, thereby intensifying the cost-of-production issue.

Producers are concerned that prices are now lower than the levels of last year. For a better understanding it was 33% higher than they were a year earlier. With the current market the owners of orchards may think about additional price changes to better accommodate purchasers.
