Although blackberries are available in great availability right now, quantities will rise to the beginning of 2025. “The availability of blackberries appears to be higher this year, as we’re not experiencing the negative effects from El Nino within Mexico as the 2023/24 period,” explained Ryan Lockman, vice president of procurement and sales for North Bay Produce.
Being able to avoid the effects of an El Nino year also means that the harvest period in Central Mexico, where all of the blackberry harvest for the company is now coming from it began earlier than a typical time, compared to 2023.
The company behind North Bay Produce, the blackberry segment has seen a number of changes this year. One of them is the fact that since the 2024/2025 seasons, the company has completely shifted off of the Tupi varieties and is now working exclusively with its own blackberry varieties. The peak of their custom-designed blackberry harvest at the beginning of spring 2025. It offers its top range of blackberries that are packaged in reserve 12x10oz Label. (These are also sold in a 12oz package.)
2024 holiday timetable
Blackberry demand is in a tense state in the present, given the short time between U.S. holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas. “With New Year’s Eve and Christmas New Year’s Eve kicking off on Wednesdays in 2024/2025 We are likely to have a difficult time selling as well as overall demand during the months of the Christmas season and New Year’s Day,” Lockman says. Lockman.
That is said that, there’s general confidence in the area of the way that blackberry use has been growing. “The is no limit with regards to the possibilities of a growing blackberry consumption,” says Lockman. “As the market moves away from the standard Tupi variety and replaces it with a new variety of genetics which provide the customer with an enjoyable dining enjoyment, demand is rising that in turn creates greater returns that are sustainable for cultivators in the near future.”
The result is an even more predictable pricing structure that tends to be higher than the past few years for the entire industry. “This results from lower Tupi acres and exclusive varieties being held in fewer hands, resulting in fewer spots for sale in the open market,” Lockman says. Lockman.
As we look ahead, the volume of sales will increase, and the quality will only become higher and higher in the coming weeks.
