A delay in the cultivation process is a major issue in the eyes of Bangladeshi onion farmers

In Bangladesh the cultivation of one variety of Kondo onion is put off due to the excessive rainfall at the beginning of July, which is when farmers are planting seedlings of the crop prior to picking it up in the the early winter. The cost of the onion could increase once more following the price hike of August, after wholesale prices were pushed up by shortages.

In this context, farmers are making their fields suitable for cultivation the Kondo variety, as the crop at the beginning of winter will help to meet the demand for fresh stock until the market by March of the following year. However, production in Pabna which is the largest onion-producing district has been delayed by 10 to 10 days due to extreme floods and constant rain.
